Discovering your own Tonalamatl, the map of your life
Tonalama is the only discipline in the world that offers a cosmic explanation of our birth from the integrated perspectives of who we are in the waking world (tonal) and when we are asleep (nahual). While other traditions explain the influence of the cosmos on the personality, no other tradition mentions the nahual, which means “who I really am” in Náhuatl, the ancient Toltec and Aztec language, and is considered by the Toltecs to be the most powerful aspect of ourselves—the one that is in control of our life.
In an ancient system inherited from the Toltecs, the Aztec calendar provides a map of who we are at birth. In ancient times it was said a midwife had to know the count of time and to calculate the newborn’s Tonalamatl to establish why that baby had come to Earth, the talents and gifts they could develop during their lifetime, the path they could follow for self-development and what their contribution to the collective would be. In this workshop, you can discover your own.
Few people awaken. Even fewer remain awake. Your Tonalamatl is a way of staying awake. It isn’t just a way of discovering and developing your talents, it’s your inheritance from Tonanzin, Mother Earth, a way of utilizing the “beings” and “essences” present at your birth to become your Quetzalcoatl, the best you can be.
According to Aztec prophecy, the time between 2012 and 2021 is the time of the Black Sun, a time to look within—a time to wake up!
